Spurs back on track, nip Hornets by big 2nd half rally

San Antonio Spurs logoImage via WikipediaThe San Antonio Spurs got back on track after losing to division rival Dallas Mavericks last Friday by defeating the New Orleans Hornets on the road 109-95. Manu Ginobili led again the surge with his 23 points, 15 all coming on the 2nd half to give the Spurs an NBA best 14-2 record. Tim Duncan added 21 points and Richard Jefferson bounced back from a nightmare performance by scoring 19 points. The Spurs also got a big lift from the bench with George Hill’s 14 points.

It was a very convincing win for the Spurs that though they were down 17 going to the 2nd half, they were able to build their own 17 point lead going down the stretch by clamping down the Hornets to just 35.5 % field goal percentage as compared to 60.5% for the Spurs. David West finished with 23 points but only 5 coming on the 2nd half. Chris Paul added 15 with Emeka Okafor and Marco Belinelli chipping in 12 points apiece.

The win gave the Spurs 2 games ahead of the division rivals New Orleans Hornets and Dallas Mavericks.
